Hemant Soren’s Resilient Return as Jharkhand CM

JMM leader Hemant Soren was sworn in as Chief Minister on 4th July 2024 for the third time at Raj Bhavan, becoming the 13th Chief Minister of Jharkhand, A day after his predecessor, Champai Soren, resigned as Chief Minister. Governor C P Radhakrishnan extended an invitation to the leader to establish the government earlier in the day. After Hemant Soren was elected as the leader of the ruling coalition’s 45 MLAs, Champai met with the Governor on Wednesday to submit his resignation. On June 28, five months after his detention, Hemant was released from custody after the Jharkhand High Court granted him bail. The court had observed that there are “reasons to believe that he was not guilty of the offence” of money laundering that was brought against him in relation to a plot of land in Ranchi.

Before taking the oath, Soren released a video in which he stated that five months ago, those intoxicated with power tried to silence him. He affirmed that the voice of the people of Jharkhand would rise again. He highlighted the following facts which has been detailed below

Soren recounted the challenges he faced over the past five months, during which various attempts were made to imprison him. He suggested that his adversaries couldn’t accept a tribal youth reaching such a high position. He referred to January 31st, when he initially addressed the public about the conspiracy against him, and noted that his opponents tried multiple ways to keep him incarcerated.

Despite these challenges, Soren pursued a legal battle and received overwhelming public support. Ultimately, the justice system declared him innocent, allowing him to return to serve the people. Reflecting on 2019, Soren acknowledged the trust the people had placed in him by giving him the opportunity to govern.

He expressed gratitude to the people of Jharkhand for their blessings and support, emphasizing his dedication to the unity of Jharkhand. Soren reiterated his commitment to being the voice of the tribals, Dalits, backward classes, minorities, poor, and laborers of the state. He highlighted the struggles faced by the disadvantaged and his efforts to serve them, despite the obstacles placed in his path.

Soren promised to continue working tirelessly to ensure the rights and welfare of the indigenous tribals and the oppressed and exploited communities in Jharkhand. He concluded by reaffirming his dedication to serving the people and making decisions that benefit the state’s marginalized populations.
