India-Pakistan Tensions: Mock Drills Ordered in Five Border States Amid Ongoing Operation Sindoor

Sindoor 2.0 Coming? India’s Massive Border Drill Sparks Speculation

Amid heightened tensions along the India-Pakistan border, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued fresh orders for large-scale mock drills in five border states—Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, and Haryana. Scheduled for tomorrow evening between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM, these drills are part of a routine preparedness measure to ensure civilian safety in the event of ceasefire violations or cross-border escalations.

According to officials, the exercise is not an indication of any immediate offensive action but rather a precautionary routine aimed at strengthening emergency response mechanisms. Participants will be trained in responding to potential drone or missile attacks, including siren alerts, blackout protocols, and evacuation drills.

Operation Sindoor: Still Active

This latest drill comes against the backdrop of ongoing military posture under “Operation Sindoor,” India’s covert and overt campaign against cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan. While top government figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and military officials have refrained from revealing specifics, they have reiterated that the operation has not ceased.

In fact, sources indicate that troop movement along India’s western border has intensified. Reports suggest enhanced surveillance, increased patrolling, and positioning of assets closer to the Line of Control (LoC).

What’s Happening Across the Border?

Meanwhile, intelligence inputs hint at renewed activity in Pakistan’s terror infrastructure. Despite Pakistan’s economic hardships and international pleas for aid, there are credible reports of madrasas, training camps, and Lashkar-e-Taiba facilities being rebuilt, especially in areas like Muridke—previously targeted by Indian strikes.

India maintains that such rebuilding efforts are unacceptable and any attempt to restore these terror hubs could invite further surgical or aerial responses.

Additionally, backchannel communications between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) from both sides have been limited and unproductive. India has demanded that Pakistan withdraw troops from forward positions, a request that Islamabad has reportedly ignored. This, Indian officials say, is further proof that Pakistan’s intentions remain dubious.

Peace Talks: A Non-Starter

Though Pakistani leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, have signaled willingness for peace talks, India remains unmoved. The government has made it clear that no dialogue will be initiated unless Pakistan takes credible, irreversible action against terror outfits operating from its soil and addresses India’s core concerns, including vacating Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The Bigger Picture: Strategic Messaging or Pre-Action Readiness?

The timing and scale of the mock drills have led to speculation over whether India is preparing for a potential follow-up to Operation Sindoor. Observers recall that during the last nationwide mock drill, Indian forces launched precision strikes just hours before the public exercise began—a tactic aimed at maintaining the element of surprise while ensuring civilian readiness for retaliation.

So, is Operation Sindoor 2.0 imminent?

While the government has not confirmed any offensive, the current sequence of events—mock drills, intelligence alerts, cross-border tension, and continued rhetoric from Indian leadership—suggests that India is keeping all options on the table.

The message is clear: India will not tolerate provocation, and if terror networks continue to revive in Pakistan, a strong and swift response is inevitable.
